Early page - should have come out on Monday. I'll be away for a few days potentially without internet, and I don't trust auto upload. Next page will be on Friday.

I spent ages trying to decide what I wanted this giant wheel of transmigration to look like. In the end the answer came from the Dazu Rock carvings, lots of sculptures (50,000 apparently!) created in the period this comic is set in and a little later. I tried to copy one called the Bao Ding Mountain Circle of Life - only problem is I couldn't find a very good picture or description of the exact iconography on it, so some of this is guesswork. The general pattern seems to be that there are worm/snake creatures at the bottom, humans at the top and everything else in between.

I also wanted to try to riff onthis stunning depiction of the ninth sphere of Heaven from Dante's Divine Comedy by Gustave Doré, (forgive the cultural incongruity!) because it might be one of my favourite images ever created.

I've tried to think of a non-spoilery answer to that, and I haven't got one. But hopefully you'll get a bit more info on those points in the next few pages!
